Budapest, 9 December 2021 – In the OECD, the Peer Review of the Eurasian Economic Union was completed, in which the Hungarian Competition Authority, the GVH participated as Lead Examiner. At the OECD meeting, Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the GVH, represented the national competition authority and made recommendations based on the experience of the review process.

Peer Reviews are an essential part of the activities of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In the Peer Review, the OECD and the Lead Examiners critically examine the competition laws and policies of a country (or, in this case, a community). The report on the Peer Review of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) was presented and discussed at the OECD Global Forum on Competition on 8 December 2021.

The GVH participated as Lead Examiner in the Peer Review of the EAEU. Representing the Hungarian national competition authority, Csaba Balázs Rigó made recommendations on ensuring the deterrent effect of sanctions in competition cases, extending mechanisms for early resolution of cases, protecting the confidentiality of documents, and strengthening due process and procedural fairness.

"The positive changes in the competition law of the Eurasian Economic Union due to the Peer Review can promote fair competition and a more effective action against infringements in the region. This can indirectly benefit Hungarian and European undertakings as competitors" – said Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the Hungarian Competition Authority.
