Case number:

Vj-96/2009

Type of case:

Restrictive agreement

Undertaking(s) concerned:

Pécsi Direkt Kereskedelmi és Szolgáltató Kft., Libri Könyvkereskedelmi Kft., Líra Könyv Zrt. and Sun Books Könyvkereskedelmi Kft ("f.a." - being liquidated)

Short description:

The Hungarian Competition Authority (Gazdasági Versenyhivatal - GVH) launched a competition supervision proceeding against the undertakings that signed such distribution agreements with publishers that set the retail prices, the price-setting of the competitors and altered consumer prices over time. Since the provisions strengthened the effects of each other, they were particularly able to restrict book-retail competition.

Decision:

The Competition Council established that the undertakings violated Act LVII of 1996 by signing restrictive agreements and as a consequence imposed a fine of 40 million HUF (approx 138.000 EUR) on Pécsi Direkt Kereskedelmi és Szolgáltató Kft., also imposed a fine of 15 million HUF (approx. 52.000 EUR) on Libri Könyvkereskedelmi Kft., while Líra Könyv Zrt. and Sun Books Könyvkereskedelmi Kft. were jointly obliged to pay a fine of 15 million HUF (approx. 52.000 EUR). Proceeding against the smaller book retailers and publishers was terminated.

Date:

Budapest, 3 October 2013
