On 24 January, the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) will hold an online workshop in English to discuss the results of its investigation into green marketing messages with representatives of foreign competition authorities and professional organisations. At the workshop, experts of the GVH will present the findings and recommendations of the market analysis on environmental claims published in January.

On 11 January 2024, the national competition authority published its market analysis study on environmental claims, which made a number of recommendations to the legislator and market players. In the market analysis, the GVH’s specialists looked at the prevalence of green claims and their impact on consumers and their choices.

The GVH's case handlers concluded, among other things, that in many cases green advertising messages are unclear and confusing, and a significant proportion of consumers are not aware of the exact content and meaning of certain claims and labels. The GVH therefore recommends that the legislator should establish a multi-level, state-regulated sustainability labelling system.

In order to make the most of market research and to discuss the growing role of consumer enforcement in the green transition, the GVH is organising an online workshop in English entitled "Investigating the green marketing messages".

The event will bring together experts from the British and Polish competition authorities to present their respective authorities' cases and experiences on green marketing messages.

The online workshop will take place on 24 January 2024 at 9:00
