The GVH established two new sections, the Antitrust Section and the Merger Section

In order to make the activity of the authority more efficient and faster, the Gazdasági Versenyhivatal (GVH - Hungarian Competition Authority) established two new organisational units, with the assistance of well-experienced case handlers. The new sections are functioning as of 1 March 2012.

The Merger Section has been established to assist the measures that are being undertaken to make the merger review of the GVH more efficient. As of 1 February the GVH - taking into consideration the responses given to the public consultation - has been applying a new merger notification form which aims to reduce the information requirements placed on parties and to strengthen transparency and highlight the importance of the practice relating to pre-notification contacts. With these reforms, the overall aim of the GVH is to conduct merger procedures in a faster and more professional (higher quality) manner. The deadlines of the procedures will be shortened regarding those concentrations that do not raise significant competition concerns and which, therefore, can be conducted in a simplified procedure - by doing so; the GVH will presumably eliminate also the administrative burden of parties.

The mission of the Antitrust Section will be to conduct and coordinate competition supervision procedures regarding several industries and in addition to this, to initiate and lead sector inquiries. By conducting the latter activities, the Antitrust Section will closely cooperate with the other sections of the GVH in order to achieve a higher quality of work in competition supervision procedures. Therefore, the main aim of the Antitrust Section is to ensure the unified and efficient action of the authority in the cases concerned.

The new sections were created on the basis of the following offices: the Financial Services Section, the Production and Services Section and the Network Industries Section.
