Decision of the Competition Council of the Hungarian Competition Authority (Gazdasági Versenyhivatal - GVH) Vj-116/2005: TIGÁZ Tiszántúli Gázszolgáltató Zrt.

The Competition Council of the Hungarian Competition Authority (Gazdasági Versenyhivatal - GVH) established in its decision, issued on 14 December 2006, that TIGÁZ Tiszántúli Gázszolgáltató Zrt., a gas supplier, which is a dominant undertaking in certain geographic areas infringed the provisions on the prohibition of abuse of a dominant position of the Hungarian Competition Act.

The GVH found that TIGÁZ acted unlawfully when it charged an unreasonably high connection price from certain customers. The benchmark used by the GVH was the price charged from customers of similar consumption on the regulated market (i.e. maximum price prescribed by the law).
The Competition Council of the GVH obliged TIGÁZ to pay a fine of HUF 4 million (approx. EUR 15.100) for its unlawful conduct.
