Meeting arranged by the GVH for heads of competition authorities

The OECD-GVH Regional Centre for Cooperation in Budapest (RCC), established by the GVH (Gazdasági Versenyhivatal - Hungarian Competition Authority) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), organized a meeting for the heads of competition authorities of the target group countries on 21 January 2013.

The OECD-GVH Regional Centre for Cooperation in Budapest (RCC) was established in February 2005 by an agreement between the OECD and the GVH. The RCC, building upon the professional background of the OECD and the GVH, provides assistance through organization of educational and professional programmes mainly for the Central-, Eastern-, and South-Eastern European countries. The activities of the RCC cover competition law and policy, the development of the competition culture, as well as the fostering of work of competition authorities, contributing thereby in the target countries to the improvement of competition and economic growth. Since its foundation, the RCC organised 69 professional programmes on competition law for about 2000 participants from the beneficiary countries.

At the meeting, Małgorzata Krasnodębska-Tomkiel, Petr Rafaj, and Tibor Menyhart, presidents of the Polish, Czech and Slovakian competition authorities, together with Miklós Juhász, president of the GVH, and András Tóth , Deputy Chairman, Chair of the Competition Council, talked about regional views on the institutional and procedural aspects of the relationship between competition authorities and courts, furthermore, developments in procedural fairness were touched upon as well.

In the afternoon session of the meeting, representatives of the competition authorities of Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Hungary, Macedonia, Moldova, the Russian Federation, Romania, Serbia, and Ukraine discussed questions and ideas on the RCC-s draft programme for year 2014.
