5th anniversary of the Regional Centre for Competition in Budapest

OECD-Hungary Regional Centre for Competition in Budapest (RCC) was established on 16 February 2005 as a result of an agreement between the Hungarian Competition Authority (Gazdasági Versenyhivatal, GVH) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and primarily by the financial support of the Hungarian government. The aim of the jointly established institution is to provide the competition authorities of the target countries with a framework for institutionalised practical trainings, hereby raising the standard of competition culture in this region. So far the RCC has organised 41 successful international events which hosted about 1100 experts from different countries and more than 250 speakers. These successful trainings are mostly meant for experts from the competition authorities of the Eastern, South-Eastern and Central European countries, for colleagues of regulatory institutions and for European judges. As a result of its activity, the RCC has become a decisive intellectual centre for the development of competition culture in the Eastern and South-Eastern European region.

On the occasion of its 5th anniversary, the RCC together with the GVH organise a great ceremony and an international conference between 2 and 3 March 2010. The conference is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on the role, activity and achievements of the RCC within the region and the guests of the event will have the honour of listening to the speeches of Péter Balázs, Minister for Foreign Affaires of Hungary, Aart de Gues, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD, Péter Gottfried, Hungary-s Ambassador to the OECD and Zoltán Nagy, President of the GVH. The second part is a professional conference entitled -Competition policy after the crisis-. In this part of the programme, renowned international and Hungarian experts will have the possibility to exchange their views and experience with each other and the audience, in connection with the activity of the competition authorities after the crisis.
